ALTERNATOR REBUILD KIT - DENSO ('89-'02, 5.9L)

Fantastic product that give me the ability to retain my denso alternator at a much more cost effective option.

Good kit. If you are not mechanical don't bother. Changed front and rear bearings and brushes. Always verify diode board or rectifier is good.

This was my first time rebuilding an alternator but when I saw how few parts were actually replaced during a rebuild, I couldn't bring myself to spend $100 or more for a rebuild of questionable quality. The instructions for this rebuild kit were pretty clear and I didn't have any major problems doing the work. The only snags I ran into were a couple of stuck screws and the bolt holding the pulley in place also being stuck. Neither one slowed down the rebuild for very long. I took photos of everything as I disassembled it so that reassembly was easier, but again, the instructions were pretty clear on all this. I rebuilt the alternator because the front bearing was beginning to squeak, but once I got it apart I could see that the brushes were about done, so it's good that the bearing started to go just before the brushes and not the other way around. Anyway, I reassembled everything and put it back on the truck with a new serpentine belt. No more squeaks and charging system works just fine. If I need any other rebuild kits for other parts on the truck in the future I will definitely go with this manufacturer.

As I needed a working alternator ASAP, I installed the brushes and fixed the problem. I will install the bearings later when get the right tools and have the time. The instructions were obviously prepared by a master mechanic who included all the little things that make the work go easier. However the stream-of-consciousness text was pretty opaque and somewhat non-linear. The grainy pictures were early 20th century quality and obscured details.
