Introducing BD Power's "$200 Part to Prevent a $10,000 Rebuild" (see the Videos tab above)
The grid heater nut problem is not an urban legend, it's a real potential issue that can happen to any of us with 2007.5-2024 Ram 6.7L Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel trucks. BD has come out with this Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit to effectively eliminate the threat of the nut falling into the engine. We like this preventative measure, especially for those who prefer to keep things stock, or who just don't want to spend a lot of money on more invasive options out there.
from BD Power: The Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit is purpose-built to address a major flaw in the 6.7L Cummins engine that can result in total engine destruction. The problem lies in the electrical connection to the intake grid heater. When powering the grid heater, 200 amps pass through a small bolt and nut inside the intake and over time is known to deteriorate and eventually arc and break off. This nut drops into the engine, leading to extensive damage to the piston, head, and valves. This kit upgrades that flawed electrical circuit by eliminating the problematic bolt and nut inside the intake while retaining stock functionality of the heater, is cost-effective, and is easy to install.
- Eliminates the problematic grid heater bolt and nut that could lead to engine damage
- Allows for full heat output with the stock intake grid heater
- Is fully emissions compliant
- Easy installation with no modifications or tuning required
- Kit includes replacement hardware and gaskets, along with special tools required for the job
- Self-locking threads built into the lower busbar which will prevent the connection from backing out and compromising electrical connection
- BD Power's Product information suggests to allow 3 hours for installation
