Description
In 2013 the folks at Ram introduced a new fuel fill neck. The top of the neck is non-threaded and this design made the traditional screw-in and locking fill cap obsolete.The new design is simply a flapper-on-a-spring. Ram responded to the market's need for a fill cap by adding an 89¢ plastic plug. Outside vendors responded by making tethered and magnetic billet fuel caps. However, folks still wanted a locking fuel cap.
Finally, TDR member Bob Woodward (hey, a former Cummins engineer) invented a locking fuel cap and we're excited to help him bring this product to Ram 2500/3500 and Ram 1500 Turbo Diesel owners.
This anodized billet aluminum locking fuel cap is a simple design, a twist of the key lets you move the locking collar up to remove the fuel cap. Thanks Bob; Customers asked for it and you made it and it's made in the USA!
THIS FUEL CAP CANNOT BE LEFT IN THE UNLOCK POSITION WHILE INSTALLED.
Will only work on Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 model trucks. Will not work on Cab & Chassis model trucks.
THIS WILL WORK WITH THE 2019 RAM 1500 CLASSIC ECODIESEL. IT WILL NOT WORK WITH THE 2019 AND NEWER RAM HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS.

What a great idea this was! I wasn't too sure about the little plastic fuel cap on my new diesel pickup. There are no provisions to use an aftermarket screw on cap of any sort.
Along comes the slip on and lockable cap. Most products out there require a threaded fuel neck but new Ram owners have no such thing!
This product is easy to use, it fits the fuel fill neck opening and it seals the pipe.
It is an ingenious and effective product that every new Ram CTD owner should consider.

I was a little hesitant buying this, I didn't think it would actually be very secure with it holding on the small lip on the filler neck. I'm definitely happy with this purchase. It's obviously better than the cheap plastic red plug. You get a good seal and the added benefit of it being secure. I don't know if fuel tank tampering or siphoning of fuel is that prevalent these days, whether it is or not, I no longer have to worry about it. It would take considerable effort to get this cap off. The quality of the product is top notch as well, definitely a solid built piece.

The cap is fine but the round key needs a handle or another bit of metal on it because it not easy to tighten and untighten.

Absolutely love this fuel cap. Only complaint is the length of the key provided with the cap. They longer bodied key that can be purchased separately should be included instead.

Unit Works OK at locking, but carrying the key and actually using it on the cap is a bit challenging given the cramped space to work in.

I have had one of these on my Ram and used it since April or May 2017. As long as you leave the key on the ring by itself, then there's no real issue using the lock. I like it a lot and am glad that I got one.

I cannot believe Ram does not put a locking mechanism on the fuel door of these trucks. But, since they do not, this is the next best thing. Unlocking this cap is an xtra step to take at refueling, but not that difficult, and the extended range of the Ecodiesel means I don't do it all that often.

This locking cap works very well. It's easy to use and we'll definitely secure your gas filler tube without having to get a locking door. I rated at 10. Wish it cost a little less, but it is worth the money.

I've had mine for over a year now and its well made. Genius fix for a problem that should not exist. However the key needs to be on a longer stem with a T handle. I welded an old school valve cover T handle to mine now it works awesome.The supplied key was very awkward for my wife to use.

Not a security feature.
Cap is very nice quality and fits well, but is easily removed by simply rotating the whole cap to the left and loosening it...without the key This fact was brought to my attention by a nefarious character that was caught in the process of stealing the cap. He was unsuccessful in keeping the cap and my fuel, but I was surprised by how easily the cap came off. For the price, I expected the cap to offer better security.
Owner Response:Thank you for the feedback, and your personal experience with people attempting to take what is not there's. Our design is limited by the components that RAM left us to work with. Like many locks, like a locking glass door, they are for honest people. In our experience and many of our customers, most shady character's are going to see the lock and move on to the next truck that more than likely does not have a lock.

I got my locking fuel cap and def cap today. They are easy to use, and good solid feel, great quality. I got these more to keep stuff out that to keep people from stealing fuel. It would be nice if the fuel cap had a tether like the def cap, but at least there is room in the fuel door/cavity to set it while fueling. 2016 Ram 2500 Cummins.

This cap did not work out as I had hoped. There is no way to leave the cap unlocked. It essentially self locks. The off center locking screw and key are cumbersome and I expect will be a real struggle in the cold. There is no way you could go to a full service fuel station with this cap. The attendant would never figure it out. The cap does not have a magnet. Too heavy any way. But if someone sets this in the top of the bed and it is forgotten it will fall and destroy a paint job in the way down. I expected more from Geno's garage for such an expensive cap so I threw away the packaging.... Not sure I can return.

Thank you for your order. We actually get asked often if there is a way to leave the locking cap unlocked, and the answer is that it is not recommended. This product was designed to be locked when placed on the filler neck, and leaving it unlocked can result in it flying around and causing damage. This product is amazing and i have nothing bad to say about it. I have a 2019 ecodiesel and the DEF Lock and locking diesel cap feel solid and fit perfect.
If i can recommend one and only improvement for both products: a swivel keychain on the key, so you can put it on your keys and spin it effortlessly. I added a swivel to mine and its WAY more functional on my keychain.

Dont recomend these locks i lost the key to my locks and was able to pry and spin off the caps within 10 seconds if people are desperate enough these locks will not deter theifs of stealing your diesel or dump sugar in your tank
Owner Response:There is no doubt that locks are for honest people. This locking fuel cap and any locking fuel cap or door would not take much to get past and is as much use as a front door dead bolt with a glass window next to it. The thought behind it is that a thief or someone wanting to contaminate diesel vehicle fuel and DEF tanks would see the lock and move onto an easier target.
